title: The Monterey Mishna: DEUTERONOMY
author: Fenton W
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 12.23.2021 • author id: WaFeTh32621
word count: 50000
ContentThe Christian theologian, Karl Barth, called Romans 1:18-32 the darkest passage of scripture. There, Paul says God ignores people who ignore him and turns them over to the lusts of their hearts. It’s a catalog of self-inflicted ruin. It is a dark passage, but to think it the darkest, Barth had surely forgotten Deuteronomy 28-29. There Moses foretells the tragedies that will befall the Jewish people because of their turning from him. Deuteronomy looks at three extended addresses of Moses as he reviews the Law, plus details of his death. The writing the book falls in a short period of a few weeks as Moses desperately pleads with Israel to be true to God upon entry into Canaan. The Monterey Mishna: DEUTERONOMY is a modern rendering of the text, with embedded insights into its story. It dares call itself a Mishnah because Mishnah simply means instruction. Like some rabbinic perceptions, some Christian traditions also miss the text’s full meaning. If you are: a Pastor, a Bible study leader, or merely interested in understanding the Jewishness of the Old Testament; a Rabbi or other Jewish person seeking a deeper relationship with G-d beyond a cultural affinity; or a Messianic Synagogue member struggling with the role of your traditions and the freedom that comes with grace in the Messiah; then The Monterey Mishna: DEUTERONOMY can be not only an understandable text, but new insights. It gives the non-Jewish believer Jewish eyes and draws the Jewish reader to see beyond its arcane procedures.

author: Fenton W
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 12.23.2021 • author id: WaFeTh32621
word count: 70000
ContentWas Ramesses II the pharaoh of the Exodus? It seems not since some archeologists place the fall of Jericho earlier. What’s the place of Exodus in the histories of the world? The Monterey Mishna: EXODUS is a modern rendering of the biblical text, with embedded answers to those and other questions. It dares call itself a Mishnah because Mishnah simply means instruction. Like some rabbinic perceptions, Christian traditions can also miss the text’s full meaning. If you are: a Pastor, a Bible study leader, or merely interested in the Jewishness of the Old Testament; a Rabbi or other Jewish person seeking a relationship with G-d beyond a cultural affinity; or a Messianic Synagogue member struggling with the role of your traditions and the freedom that comes with grace in the Messiah; then The Monterey Mishna: EXODUS can bring not only an understandable text but also new insights. It gives the non-Jewish believer Jewish eyes and draws the Jewish reader to see beyond its arcane procedures.

title: The Monterey Mishna: NUMBERS
author: Fenton W
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 12.21.2021 • author id: WaFeTh32621
word count: 62000
ContentThe Monterey Mishnah: NUMBERS deals with the thirty-eight-year trip from Sinai to Canaan. Its central story is Israel’s faith-failure approaching Canaan. Rabbinic Judaism believes this to have been on Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the fifth Jewish month. Solomon’s temple and Herod’s temple both fell on that date. Numerous other disasters have followed on Tisha B’Av, including the Nazi party instituting the “Final Solution of the Jewish Problem†in 1941. The Monterey Mishna: NUMBERS is a modern rendering of the text, with embedded insights into the events. It dares call itself a Mishnah because Mishnah simply means instruction. Like some rabbinic perceptions, some Christian traditions can also miss the text’s full meaning. If you are: a Pastor, a Bible study leader, or merely interested in understanding the Jewishness of the Old Testament; a Rabbi or other Jewish person seeking a deeper relationship with G-d beyond a cultural affinity; or a Messianic Synagogue member struggling with the role of your traditions and the freedom that comes with grace in the Messiah; then The Monterey Mishna: NUMBERS can be not only an understandable text, but give new insights. title: The Monterey Mishna: LEVITICUS
author: Fenton W
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 12.16.2021 • author id: WaFeTh32621
word count: 60000
ContentEven Biblically-literate Christians neglect Leviticus. Few understand it, including pastors. Reading this Jewish book through non-Jewish eyes limits most. Those who seek to master it face obstacles: often a lack of non-technical commentary or its spiritualization. Too often, Christian writers have tried to hammer Leviticus into its spiritual meaning for the Church while Jewish reviewers stick to technical detail. Like some rabbinic perceptions, Christian traditions can also miss the text’s full meaning. If you are: a Pastor, a Bible study leader, or merely interested in the Jewishness of the Old Testament; a Rabbi or other Jewish person seeking a relationship with G-d beyond a cultural affinity; or a Messianic Synagogue member struggling with the role of your traditions and the freedom that comes with grace in the Messiah; then The Monterey Talmud: LEVITICUS is a commentary and translation that gives the non-Jewish believer Jewish eyes and draws the Jewish reader to see beyond its arcane procedures.

word count: 90000
ContentFinding it difficult to see Genesis beyond stories with moral insights? Worse, is it just a collection of Hebrew myths? If not, what’s its place in the histories of the world? The Monterey Mishna: GENESIS is a modern rendering of the text, with embedded answers to those questions. It dares call itself a Mishnah because the Hebrew word, Mishnah, simply means instruction. Like some rabbinic perceptions, Christian traditions can also miss the text’s full meaning. If you are: a Pastor, a Bible study leader, or merely interested in understanding the Jewishness of the Old Testament; a Rabbi or other Jewish person seeking a relationship with G-d beyond a cultural affinity; or a Messianic Synagogue member struggling with the role of your traditions and the freedom that comes with grace in the Messiah; then The Monterey Mishna: GENESIS can be not only an understandable text, but new insights. title: Take Away the Stone
author: John P
category: fiction • subcategory: general • date submitted: 12.8.2021 • author id: PuJoTa31121
word count: 69000
ContentBeth Paley’s home church in the States urged her to get away from her boyfriend who was not saved, so she spent two weeks’ vacation in the UK. This led to a teaching job in the UK which became dramatically life-changing for several people, including herself. As a staff member in a high-class girls’ school in southern England, Beth soon had problems with the headmistress. She had opportunities to teach the Gospel to her girls, but her zeal upset several people, in the town and in the Church of England in the small town of Pedford. Several months earlier that year, Father Andrew Cranston had taken charge of St Matthew’s. He had also upset several people by introducing changes into the Anglican Church. However, he successfully used some radical methods to minister to a group of disadvantaged people. Other people from various levels of society in Pedford were affected by these events. Father Andrew’s Easter sermon was like an earthquake for many, including for himself. Later on, a tragedy strikes at the heart of Andrew’s ministry, and at the heart of Beth’s work. This leads to a beautiful conclusion illustrating God’s ability to bring good out of bad.
About the AuthorJohn Puckett has many years of church experience in the UK. He has written several poems and had a few published. He has written some fiction and also some expositions of Bible truth. For over 40 years he has preached, especially in small meetings. He often writes articles on FaithWriters.

The suicide of her younger sister, Callie, has pushed Julie to question how this could have happened to her vibrant and loving sibling. She commits to staying with her elderly parents on the farm as they process their grief. Julie realizes, after uncovering some suspicious clues, that Callie's death may not have been suicide. Discovering that her sister may have uncovered a dangerous money-making scheme, Julie is determined to find who is responsible for Callie’s death. After a narrow brush with death during her investigation, Julie comes face-to-face with the realization that support from her family and friends serve her better than her need for independence, and she discovers what is truly important--that depending on God provides the ultimate fulfillment she is seeking.
About the AuthorI am an avid reader and lover of the inky smell and crisp feel of the pages of a new novel. Writing descriptive stories, filled with unforgettable characters and exciting plots, has been on my bucket list since retiring as a speech and language pathologist. My goal in writing this debut novel was two-fold: creating a mystery while showcasing characters with Christian values, and providing readers a story void of vulgarity, which seems to be prevalent in today's literature.

title: Moses: Man of God
author: Loren V
category: nonfiction • subcategory: biblestudy • date submitted: 11.29.2021 • author id: VaLoMo31221
word count: 114183
ContentIt is time we rediscover Moses. Who else: Divided the Red Sea? Struck a rock to provide water for thousands? Brought the most powerful nation on earth to its knees? Guided a multitude of ex-slaves through a brutal wilderness and prepared them to be a nation? Probably performed more miracles than anyone but Jesus? Obviously, God was the miracle worker. But it took a very special man to do all that – and still be called the most humble man on earth. He is the most significant figure in Judaism and near the top for both Christians and Muslims. Moses would have to be included among the ten greatest men of all time, so I went to several web sites to find out what others thought. Thankfully, most of them place Jesus at the top of the list, but nowhere did I find Moses. This is not a commentary on the Pentateuch, nor is it a biography of Moses reconstructed from what we know about him. It is an exegetical study of his “autobiography,†designed to help you apply the Scriptures to your life and make Moses come alive. It offers particular riches to leaders, both inside and outside the church.

This book, the first of four volumes in the series “Walk like Jesus walked,†starts with a call for a radical decision to follow Jesus and become his disciple. title: The Undivided Leader: Cultivating a Relationally, Emotionally, and Spiritually Healthy Self
author: Ryan S
category: nonfiction • subcategory: selfhelp • date submitted: 11.23.2021 • author id: SeRyTh29321
word count: 14000
ContentHow many leaders have you followed where something was “off?†Perhaps it was their relationships with other people. Maybe they were emotionally wild, like a roller coaster. Was their leadership like a spiritual desert, dead and dry? The Undivided Leader is a culmination of my life and leadership experiences so far. It is a simple handbook to guide leaders (whether fresh or seasoned) towards cultivating a relationally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy self. It is presented as a succinct, light-hearted, and easily digestible book that moves readers towards a holistic and undivided self. Each section follows a similar form—an outline of health in a specific area, a list of pertinent characteristics that demonstrate health, and steps to cultivate these attributes in one’s own self. In many ways, it is a book on “followship†as much as leadership. How to follow what our deep “selves†are telling us and ultimately, how to follow the Lord as we lead. My hope is that, no matter the leadership pedigree, each reader will finish feeling encouraged, inspired, and prepared to take the necessary steps towards developing a healthy relational, emotional, and spiritual health.

She has also served at Saddleback Church as a Kids Small Group Leader since 2010, implementing a strong foundation of God’s Word into the hearts and minds of our future generations. The book was inspired by witnessing the struggles of our children today who focus on attaining perfection on their report cards. word count: 64000
Content(Working Title: I Am) This book was written with simple goals in mind. The world needs to know the spiritual fitness of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to lead everyone into the presence of God. This book was written to provide the reader with a short but intense look at Jesus Christ. Who was Jesus? Was he special? Did he have a message that we need to hear? The book starts out by examining the qualifications of Jesus Christ, outlining his role in creation, exploring his capacity to lead, and delving into the power of The Resurrection that resided within him. Next, the author presents each reader with biblical truths to guide informed choices about eternity. Will it be a lifeless place without God’s presence, a place of loss and deprivation? Or, will eternity be filled with the life-giving presence of God in a place of wonder and beauty? This book makes it clear that Jesus chose to come to us so that as we walk through our lives we can search out the beauty and love of God - and make our own choices - for eternity.

Content“Adventures of a Maverick Scientist†is a memoir about a Christian science writer who received international publicity after losing his column in Scientific American because he privately rejected Darwinian evolution and abortion. That writer was me, and I went on to write 50+ books with total sales exceeding 7.5 million copies (the potential audience for this memoir) and receive a Rolex Award for inventing a handheld  instrument that found an error in NASA’s ozone satellite. That finding led to my first paper in Nature, the world’s leading scientific journal. This memoir is designed to motivate Christians to excel when faced with ridicule from skeptics and today’s cancel culture crowd. Thanks to my faith in God, I’ve had a successful career as an inventor, self-taught scientist and author of best-selling books and a few thousand magazine and newspaper articles. I’ve also edited two science magazine. Though my sole degree is a BA in government and English from Texas A&M, more than 20 of my research papers have been published in science journals. ContentWhen Regency England-era orphan Geneva Everson discovers her entire history is a lie, her new life as mistress of a mystery-riddled wealthy estate quickly becomes a labyrinth of treachery, danger, and heartbreak, leaving only Geneva’s courage, determination, and faith in a loving God as guide to whom she should love, whom she can trust, and how to forgive.
About the AuthorI am a retired Registered Nurse. I’ve invested five years of daily writing to learn my craft as a writer, including three years of mentoring by award-winning novelist and editor Jeanette Windle. My love of Britain’s Regency era stems from extended holidays in southern England, where I soaked up the pastoral beauty and rich history. The historic Athelhampton House in rural Dorset, including its local history of underpaid farm laborers rebelling in the Swing riots of 1830, and my personal compassion for the poor became the template for my first Regency novel. Ravensmere’s spiritual message was birthed from my own lengthy experience with bitterness and is based on Hebrews 12:14-15: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness…lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you.” Only when I repented of my own unforgiveness could God bring healing and renew joy in my life.

title: One of Them: The Transformation of Simon Peter
author: Tom H
category: fiction • subcategory: biblical • date submitted: 10.14.2021 • author id: HoToOn26421
word count: 50000
ContentThe purpose of writing about the Apostle Peter is simple! We all sin and fall short of the glory of God, and the Apostle Peter was no exception. After all, he denied knowing Jesus three times right before the crucifixion. But God! By the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter overcame his past to become a critical leader in the first-century church. Just like Peter, we all have the same opportunity to overcome our sinful past and work in powerful ways on behalf of the Kingdom of God. While no one knows Simon Peter’s life prior to meeting Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, my novel provides a unique picture of Simon as a young, arrogant man with no direction in life, except making a meager living by fishing. Certainly, Simon Peter’s walk with Jesus is well-documented, but this story provides added fictional insights into Peter’s character prior to meeting Jesus and joining him as one of the twelve disciples. Readers will be able to examine the life of one of the Bible’s greatest characters. And Simon Peter was a character! As a result, they can apply the same biblical principles to have a compelling impact on this world, just as St. Peter had two thousand years ago.

ContentAngus Daley, 12 going on 21, is a bit of a loner who has a quirky sense of humour and a loving and fun Mum and Dad. But other than his eccentric music teacher, Mr. Vaistas (who might be a 100 but probably isn’t), Angus has no real friends. Then he meets Sarah and her twin brother, Danny. Danny is confined to his wheelchair but bears no grudge towards his alcoholic dad, whose driving changed Danny’s life. What Danny most wants is for his dad to forgive himself and return home. Angus and Sarah know that God could work a miracle and cure Danny, but that is not the miracle Danny hopes for. His prayer is to have his dad back. On an adventure-filled holiday where Angus’s nosy disposition gets him into all sorts of bother, together the three children come up with an ingenious plan to reunite the family. Angus also finds out what happens when you kiss a dead person.
About the AuthorI am a retired Sydney Morning Herald subeditor, father of five, grandfather of 12. This 22,000-word novella is aimed at middle-grade readers but may also appeal to mature-age readers who remember, and delight in, what is was like to be a child. I enjoy wrestling with God, as evidenced in many of my published articles in the Marist Messenger. My goal is to inspire children to think creatively and to always keep God in the equation.

ContentDo you live your Christian life, on the outside looking in, due to your struggles with mental health? Oftentimes, believers with depression face a lack of proper support and understanding from church members and leadership, leading them to feel alienated within church walls. In The Church and The Depressed Christian, suicide attempt survivor and mental health advocate Tabitha Yates seeks to encourage Christians of all ages who have battled mental health issues and wrestle with how their faith and their feelings can coexist. As a lifelong believer, Tabitha had countless experiences with individuals in her church who felt that her faith was invalidated or lessened by a perceived weakness: her depression. Tabitha’s church leaders lacked the proper tools and understanding to support those living with depression. As a result, her mental health was mishandled to the point that it compelled her to attempt suicide. Readers will find hope and healing as Tabitha shares her inspiring story of living with anxiety and depression within a church setting, surviving a suicide attempt, and clinging to faith when it seemed her life was beyond all possibility of redemption. Tabitha will break down the stigma regarding mental illness within the church in a heartwarming and relatable way. She will gently prod readers back towards a loving relationship with the God who unconditionally accepts them, while sparking a more open conversation about how mental health is approached in the church. She hopes to help those who have left the church due to their mental health to find their way back to restoration and fellowship with other believers, with healthy boundaries in place and a firm understanding that when we learn to put our faith in God, rather than in flawed humanity, we can better navigate life and relationships within the body of Christ. Readers will be reassured that God has a purpose and place within the church for Christians who struggle with anxiety and depression.

ContentIn a city perched on a hill in suburban Australia, Jesse and Brennan have been in a homosexual relationship for two years. For happy-go-lucky Jesse, life couldn’t be better, but dark, brooding Brennan carries a painful past inside him. The local church minister, Matt, lives an untroubled existence with his wife, Gabby. When Matt and Gabby invite Jesse and Brennan to a barbecue with friends, and then to church, Brennan is initially reluctant. Not everyone in the congregation is as welcoming as Matt would like, either. As time goes on and Jesse journeys closer to Jesus and Christianity, Brennan is forced to make the difficult choice between holding onto the familiar or letting go of his past hurts. Meanwhile, Matt has to wrangle objecting church members while trying to show Christian grace to everyone. This debut novella presents a measured, sensitive exploration of some of the issues in the Christianity/homosexuality debate through a fictionalised account with a distinctly Australian flavour.
