About the Author
I started writing when I was sixteen because my father challenged me to write a book and that was how I discovered my love of storytelling. I’m a part-time sales associate, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, a former law enforcement explorer, and a volunteer at a youth ranch where I write articles for their monthly e-news and teach young children to ride. My hope for my books is that they can teach young adults the importance of having a relationship with God and how to rely on Him when life gets difficult.

title: Shyam's Gospel

author: Shyam W

category: nonfiction • subcategory: spiritualgrowth • date submitted: 10.12.2023 • author id: WiShSh24923

word count: 80000

Content

Shyam’s Gospel is a simple paraphrase written in contemporary language for a leisurely reading without deviating from the original text, content or meaning. It interprets, applies and re-illustrates the gospels within the text itself to keep it compact. It collates all the four gospels into one seamless story in contemporary language devoid of all traditional Biblical terms, with words even a first time Bible reader will be able to understand. There are many versions of the Gospels but there are no interpreted or “cooked and ready to eat” version melding the four Gospels in their entirety. It is a synergised version that collates not only pericope duplicates but also similar episodes and teachings to present a compact narrative. It regroups the episodes in Jesus life and his teachings topically in a story format, within a broad chronological order. It’s the complete story, not a single verse or a thought presented in the four Gospels is left out. Depending on the context in which each author uses the verse or thought they are placed in an appropriate episode in Shyam’s Gospel. More about the book and it’s uniqueness in the Introductory chapter to the Book.

title: The Inn on Jericho Road

author: Stan E

category: fiction • subcategory: biblical • date submitted: 10.2.2023 • author id: EsStTh24423

word count: 56000

Content

Brief Description – The Inn on Jericho Road   The Inn on Jericho Road is a scripture-based imagined story of Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan. It illuminates the impact of an encounter with Jesus, exemplified by His conversation with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well, and how this message of love, ‘Living Water’, is passed on from one individual to another. A Samaritan merchant travels to marketplaces along the Jordan River. On this journey, he is unaware that he is days behind Jesus, on route to the Jordan, during Jesus’ final month of ministry, culminating on Calvary Hill. Throughout his travels, the merchant has been hearing and refusing to believe stories of Jesus’ ministry – until he has an encounter with Jesus, witnesses His teaching and feeding of the crowd. In spite of what he has seen, he thinks: “It’s just a trick.” His resistance weakens after a conversation with a disciple of Jesus. Now, what he has seen and heard occupies his mind as he travels. When he encounters a victim of robbery laying near death on Jericho Road, he recalls Jesus’ words: "Love one another," and he reacts, taking the man to a simple inn. In the course of healing the victim, the merchant shares his experience with the innkeeper, the niece and the robbery victim. Each overcome their judgement of one another and are changed by Jesus' message of love -- love shared even in the rustic confines of a remote inn.

(Working Title: From Hydrocodone to the Holy Spirit -Subtitle: Conquering the Illusions of Happiness) Drugs, booze, and partying – could there be anything better to live for?  Although Rod tried to establish a relationship with the Lord serval times throughout the course of his life, his short-term pleasure seeking, along with satisfying his worldly-inspired impulses continually took precedence over any meaningful and lasting relationship with God. One fateful night changed this cycle. Being committed to a mental ward while high on drugs acted as a reality check – a veritable slap in the face for Rod; but it was relinquishing the reins of his out of control life over to the Lord as he sat locked behind the padded walls of his cell he shared with a schizophrenic roommate that inspired transformation in his life.

title: MY, OH MY, I WONDER WHY?

author: Mark R

category: fiction • subcategory: children • date submitted: 9.18.2023 • author id: ReMaMY23523

word count: 460

Content

When a young swimmer named Mabel asks a fish what it's like to always be wet, it set's off a fun, fast-paced chain of curious wonderment throughout the animal world.  A fish wonders what it's like to fly, a bird wonders what it's like to run fast, and a horse wonders what it's like to swing from a tree in the picture book, MY, OH MY, I WONDER WHY? As Mabel listens to all the animals, she begins to understand an even bigger wonder. This story is for children ages 4 to 8 and is told in 460 words. MY, OH MY, I WONDER WHY? shines with zany rhymes and with hope and affirmation like the successful picture book, WHEREVER YOU GO, I WANT YOU TO KNOW by Melissa B. Kruger and Isabel Lundie, The Good Book Company, August 22.  It explores a riddle like in Roman Yasiejko's WHO IS IT, WHOODINI, Yeehoo Press, 2022.  But what sets my heart-warming book apart is how by embracing our unique gifts, talents, and worth, we can soar and swing with zest and zing with all the creatures of the sky, sea, and earth in a chorus of shared praise and purpose!

title: Friendship with Jesus: An Imaginative Prayer Journey

author: Dan H

category: nonfiction • subcategory: spiritualgrowth • date submitted: 9.16.2023 • author id: HeDaFr22723

word count: 69000

Content

What does it mean to be a “friend of Jesus” and how does that happen? In John 15:15 Jesus calls his disciples “friends” rather than slaves. What does this mean and how can we experience it? This book offers a framework to experience friendship with Jesus in a way similar to how we experience all our friendships. Every friendship has a beginning; we hear about someone, we meet them, and we begin to do things together. As the friendship develops, we learn to trust, we slowly open up our hearts, and our affection for our friend grows. Intimate friends share their lives with each other, are honest about their longings and failures and are even willing to lay down their lives for one another. All this happens slowly over time. In the Gospels, Jesus reveals this friendship development dynamic with his own friends – and invites us into a similarly real and meaningful friendship with him. This book invites the reader into a practice of imaginative prayer as the means by which we can enter into a profound experience of friendship with Jesus. We have “invited Jesus into our lives.” Now, allow Jesus to invite you into his!

About the Author
I, Dr. Dan Heavenor (B.A (English), MDiv, DMin), am a former pastor and trained spiritual director with a busy practice who has studied extensively the dynamics of imaginative prayer and its immense value in the lives of people who seek a deeper intimacy with Jesus. I have led many workshops and prayer retreats using this framework, always with an enthusiastic response. Many of my directees are pastors and I hear about their own spiritual longings as well as the longings of their congregants for deeper connection and intimacy with Jesus. I have been on my own journey with Jesus for over 50 years, experiencing many of the joyful and frustrating dynamics of this relationship. My life as a writer is in its beginning phase, but like a good friendship, looking to develop and grow through blogs, articles, and books.

title: The Life Abundant: The Quest For Spirituality in a Broken World

author: Jamie M

category: nonfiction • subcategory: biblecommentary • date submitted: 9.16.2023 • author id: McJaTh22623

word count: 80000

Content

The Gospel of John tells His disciples that he has come so that we might have life and have it in abundance. The Life Abundant explores how we can find the movement of the Spirit in every moment in a world that can be dismissive of faith.

About the Author
I was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2007 and have worked for the Church for almost three decades, serving churches in Missouri, North Carolina, New York, Alabama, and Kentucky as a pastor, interim pastor, youth leader, teacher, and in many other church roles. I currently teach at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where I offer courses on religion and human rights and am also interim pastor at United Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, Kentucky. I hold a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Theological, Historical, and Ethical Systems from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, master's degrees in Divinity and Theology from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Clemson University. By using my knowledge of scriptural criticism and exegesis I have developed a variety of church classes and book study groups exploring the many layers of biblical witness. I have a lifelong and deep faith and have served it through pastoring, youth ministry, teaching, extensive writing, and many other opportunities, from the academic perspective but more importantly from the day to day of church life. I have ministered to many whose faith has been shaken by the events of the last few years and it's essential that those who are open to Christ's teachings understand where faith comes from, stripped of much of the political and social overlay imposed by church bureaucracy. The book is intended for both general readers and ministers or lay church leaders. In addition to being a practicing minister, teacher, and writer, I have very active social media accounts, including over seven hundred on Facebook, and hundreds on Twitter and Instagram. I also have (considering the many churches I have served and my broad network of connections and supporters) significant opportunities in multiple states and cities for book signings and panel discussions, I also contribute to online religious publications, all of which would be invaluable to publicizing this book. The study questions at the end of each chapter of the book are also intended to generate discussion opportunities for Sunday and Wednesday night groups, all of which I am well-positioned to lead both in person and online. The book would also be appropriate to market as an eight-week course of study, tracking its chapter topics.

word count: 50000

Content

In an age of tribalism, division, anxiety, and despair, Writing a Life that Counts offers a refreshing solution by challenging readers of all political, economic, and denominational stripes to focus on what matters most - relationships. Part I focuses on the importance of living a life that matters. It points out that while most people say they want their lives to count, they often live in ways that do not align with what they tell others they believe. Part II offers practical ways to invest in seven key relationships Jesus prioritized during his time on earth. These include investing in our relationships with God, family, friends, disciples, the unseen, doubters, and partners. Part III addresses some of the primary challenges Western readers face and offers readers practical ways they can apply what they’ve read to their contexts.

Christian parents hope that their children will develop a prayer life.  But, how can parents accomplish this goal? Hide-and-Seek-Prayers is a story for young children that models how to talk to God. Each night, Rosie tells God where she found him hiding in the day. No one can see God, of course. Rosie sees God in the fingerprints he leaves behind in the things he’s made:  in her cat, Louie, a bird, or a rainbow, etc. Rosie talks to God with a voice that stands up on the page in unforgettable and entertaining style. She even shows readers how to find God in the unexpected hailstones that ruin her favorite flowers: “I suppose I saw you, God, hiding in the hailstones, today. Looks like you emptied every drawer you had up there!” Hide-and-Seek-Prayers is a book that will establish for children the habit of looking for God’s fingerprints in their lives.  It is a book that parents will love to read to their children, and children will love to read for themselves.

Three worlds, bound together in time and space by the love of a Savior.  Earth, redeemed by the Cross, broken Oragoth, populated after the Resurrection to stand against fallen Brillig, doomed to destruction unless the Gospel frees it.  Tragedy unites Jason, son of Earth, and Y’narra, daughter of Brillig, in an unlikely pairing as they undertake an epic quest across two planets to halt the subjugation of Earth by its old gods. The ancient gods abandoned their thrones at the dawn of history in search of a home beyond God’s dominion.  They discover another timeline outside of Earth’s universe, a remnant left from the creation event.  They settle on Brillig, a world they must terraform to make habitable. They soon realize Brillig is doomed despite their herculean efforts to keep it viable, and they embark on the voyage to reclaim their thrones on Earth.  But they find a third timeline stands between them and Earth, one created after the Resurrection and which they must conquer if they are to reach Earth. A Knight out of Time is Christian fantasy suffused with elements of science fiction.  Taking place over three novels, Jason, a rising star on a Triple A Baseball team, and Y’narra, the daughter of the main villain, are swept up in God’s plan to prevent the old gods return to Earth. Before they can confront the old gods, Jason must let go of the accident that took his career away and Y’narra must shake off the yoke of bondage to them to make the journey past salvation to a complete trust in God’s plan for her life.

Most Christians can, maybe with a few helpful hints, list off the fruit of the Spirit. We’ve all had at least one Sunday School lesson or sermon give us the run down of the nine attributes and what they mean, but how often have we considered what it means to call it the fruit of the Spirit? Fruit-bearing trees, bushes, and vines only produce according to their nature: an apple tree will not produce oranges; a blackberry bush will not produce blueberries; a tomato vine will not produce pumpkins. Therefore, if the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, then by default this means that the essential nature of the Spirit is also love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This study will survey the evidence of the fruit of the Spirit across the Old and New Testament in the lives of God’s people and in God’s essential nature displayed in his Word. Where God is, so is his fruit.

About the Author
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and History, and a Master of Arts in Theology, and have taught the Bible to all ages, from preschoolers to adults. Currently I am an adjunct professor of Religion. This book can be used independently or in a group for those who want an accessible academic look into how we can understand the fruit of the Spirit across the Bible and in our lives today.

Having a baby in a gas station attracted more attention than fifteen-year-old Kennedi wanted. Attention that led her to foster mom Amanda who wants to control her, and foster dad Henry who seems annoyed at her presence. And the DNA test Henry encouraged her to do on her baby: Was it to find relatives to send her to? Or to find the baby daddy to get child support? The DNA results match to members of a clan of the baby’s paternal relatives, but they lack matches to Kennedi’s own family lineage, leading to events that have her questioning her whole identity. By crashing a family reunion of her baby’s extended family, and door-to-door detective work with friends, she closes in on the baby’s father. And maybe her foster parents aren’t so bad after all. With their help, she connects with relatives she never knew she had. After years of instability, does she want to leave the people who have made her feel like family to join others who merely share her DNA? Does she have a choice?

title: A Framework for Preaching the Beatitudes

author: Landis B

category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 7.15.2023 • author id: BrLaA 17323

word count: 32000

Content

The aim of this manuscript is to provide the proper hermeneutics of the Beatitudes, presented at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount.  This will be accomplished by providing an exegetical study of the Greek word Makarios which is translated loosely as Blessed at the beginning of each Beatitude. Providing the proper hermeneutic of the Beatitudes will allow for a correct interpretation, changing the notion that the Beatitudes are actions that One must strive to maintain or obtain to establish their place in the Kingdom of Heaven.  The goal is to provide assurance in One's salvation by interpreting the Beatitudes as qualities and promises that a believer already owns in the present but also in the future.  This assurance will rest on interpreting the word Makarios as happy or flourishing. The correct interpretation of the Beatitudes will be seen in translation where the word Blessed is replaced, changing the whole meaning of the text.  For example, "Flourishing are the poor in spirit because theirs is the kingdom of God." The goal of this manuscript is to reveal that the Beatitudes are not a checklist of qualities a person must perform to receive salvation but, however, describe the condition of an already saved individual.

title: CS Lewis and the Irish Imagination

author: Ronald 'Ronnie' B

category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 7.14.2023 • author id: BrRoCS17223

word count: 86800

Content

C. S. Lewis and the Irish Imagination seeks to explore the Irish background and influences on C. S. Lewis’s imagination and his writing. This is the first full-length critical study which examines Lewis as an ‘Irish writer’ rather than, as he has been largely viewed to date, as a writer who was merely born in Ireland prior to being absorbed by the Oxbridge establishment. The work follows a largely chronological approach and the principal events in and influences on Lewis’s life are closely examined where they impact on his work. The exception to this methodology occurs in chapter five where Lewis is considered in relation to two other Irish fantasists, Lord Dunsany and Forrest Reid. It is frequently mentioned, and rightly so, in critical and biographical studies of Lewis, how Norse mythology made an indelible imprint on his imagination, but little critical attention has been given to the influence of the Celtic – and in particular the Irish – myths and legends on Lewis’s thought and writings. This work reveals the extent of the Celtic Otherworld as the inspiration and imaginative impulse for much of the created world of Narnia and will be new to many readers. C. S. Lewis and the Irish Imagination explores the interface between Lewis’s life and work and is central to our understanding of the man: the Irish background, in many cases, helps illuminate the work.

About the Author
Ronald W Bresland is one of the leading authorities on CS Lewis’ Irish life and background. His book The Backward Glance: CS Lewis and Ireland (1999) explored the many connections between CS Lewis and Ireland. He has also written the Northern Ireland Tourist Board brochure ‘Northern Ireland: The CS Lewis Story’ (2005). His Travel with CS Lewis (Day One, 2006) is a fully illustrated biography which guides the reader around the various locations associated with CS Lewis in Ireland and England. He has contributed to Mere Christians: Inspiring Stories of Encounters with C. S. Lewis (Baker Books, 2009). Dr Bresland has lectured and contributed to documentaries on CS Lewis in the UK and US and lectured on CS Lewis’ Irish background at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.

(Working title: The Bad Dad List) Until that moment on the mountain, Seth Dunnaway’s biggest concerns in life had been paying for his kids’ braces and fighting back dad bod. After that moment, however? Well, he’s just hoping to get through a conversation with one of his siblings without having a can of Coors Light chucked at his head or his pants set on fire in the Colorado wilderness. Put simply, Seth’s narcissistic, abusive father asks him to apologize to his seven siblings and half-siblings for being such a horrible father. There’s just one teeny, tiny complication: Dad had passed away four years earlier. Oh, and most of those siblings no longer believe in silly nonsense like religion or spiritual experiences or forgiveness anymore. Also, each still has massive, unresolved emotional baggage from Dad that Seth doesn’t even know about. Okay, make that three teeny, tiny complications.

Imagine that you had witnessed 276 executions. What would that do to a person? Would it make you stronger or tear you down? Would you be able to sleep at night or would death be your constant companion, even in your dreams? In ”A Beautiful Day To Die – What 276 Executions Have Taught a Death Row Chaplain About Life” I delve deep into an unlikely story of self discovery that came about after visiting death row chaplain Jim Brazzil in his Texas countryside home. In a touchingly honest two week long interview I became privy to his remarkable life’s journey of love, forgiveness, and redemption. This book shows readers the incredible impact Jim has had on countless souls, but also reveals the universal truths he has learned through his incredible experiences. Through Jim’s brutally honest revelations and my reflections you will learn about living life to the fullest, forgiving those who have wronged you, and finding hope in the darkest of moments. Both by the grace of God, but also from your own doing. This book was recently published here in my native Sweden, but as Jim is dying, it is his last wish, and mine, that it will be published in America as well.

In an era plagued by a crisis of meaning, societal fractures have deepened despite material prosperity. The consequences are evident: job losses over ideological differences, polarized politicians, and the unrelenting grip of the opioid crisis. How did we arrive at this juncture, and is there hope for redemption?   The Nihilistic West offers a compelling examination for the intellectually curious. It unearths the origins of our modern affliction—the demise of God as postulated by Nietzsche—and explores the emergence of replacement religions like social justice warriors, diversity-inclusivity-equity, victimhood, climate alarmism, and vaccine hesitancy. Crafted for centrist and right-of-center readers, this book provides practical solutions. By promoting free speech, rediscovering traditional religious values, and fostering personal responsibility, we can repair the frayed fabric of society. With 14 chapters spanning 54 000 words, the manuscript incorporates over 50 relevant images, graphs, and cultural references. Written by an experienced medical practitioner specializing in addictions and chronic pain, the author's unique insight sheds light on the underlying malaise.   The Nihilistic West empowers readers to confront the world's meaning crisis head-on and actively contribute to its restoration. Join the quest to revitalize society and rediscover purpose in an uncertain world.

For nineteen-year-old Sallie Turner, teaching in utopia for a year is a small price to pay to atone for her role in her brother’s death. So in 1826 she travels to Robert Owen’s experimental commune on the Boatload of Knowledge. Hired as an educator, she can’t reveal her ambition to become America’s first lady ornithologist, but New Harmony gives her greater exposure to scientists than she could otherwise dream of. Not only that, but the carefree atheism of Owen’s charismatic son Dale offers a welcome reprieve from her guilt-induced claustrophobia. Yet whenever tragedy or danger strike—as they do often on the journey—Sallie’s atheism wavers. Once she arrives in New Harmony, she gets caught in the middle of warring factions. Jacob, the town’s helpful and handsome cabinetmaker, offers stability and friendship, but whenever their relationship heats up, he imposes a mysterious cooling off period. Although Sallie’s not sure she belongs with the Literati—who believe that private ownership, marriage, and irrational religion are society’s three evils—she takes their side against Christianity, producing a rift with Jacob. As the utopia begins to crumble and unsavory characters stalk her, Sallie will be lucky to escape with her life.

About the Author
As an English professor with a Master's in literature, I became fascinated with nineteenth-century American utopias and began studying them. My meticulously researched historical novel about the Oneida Community, Silken Strands, was released in 2019. For my next novel, I turned my attention to the secular utopia of New Harmony, Indiana. Both novels seamlessly weave a fictional heroine's story into historic events as she interacts with famous people of the past. My contemporary Christian novella, Shattered Faith, published in 2019, won First Place in ACFW's First Impressions Contest and was a Finalist for ACFW's Genesis Award. Several of my short works (memoir, short story, poems) have been published in literary magazines and anthologies, and several were contest winners or earned awards. In addition to my role as adjunct professor for a local Christian college, I'm the founder and executive director of a homeschool academy in St. Paul.
