ContentThe woman most likely to experience sexual coercion in marriage are 35-50, white, college-educated, and going to church every week. Research shows that over a third of married women experience it through badgering, bullying, manipulation, threats, and even misuse of scripture. But this subject is not talked about. What happens in a marital bedroom is loaded with emotional baggage, assumptions about marital duty and consent, and the attitudes we bring from our world and our upbringing. It happens in private. And it stays in private. Silent, unchecked, metastasizing. We need to understand this broken language of intimacy, how it developed, how it happens, and what the biblical truth is that we need to return to. We need to understand what the Bible says about the darker side of physical love and how God responds to it. We need to understand the impact to the woman and the ripple effects on marriage, family, and church. This book will open eyes and equip people to meet this challenge. It’s the only thing they ever asked him to teach them—not how to heal or how to preach or how to change water into wine. No, they wanted to know how to pray. Even the Apostle Paul found prayer difficult at times: “We don’t know what to pray for as we ought ...†(Romans 8:26). We struggle with prayer, yet we keep praying because God has put within each of us a deep desire to connect with him just as he desires to connect with us. “Draw near to me,†he says, “and I will draw near to you†(James 4:8). Much more so when abortion is considered. Abortion has been responsible for more human deaths than all other forms of modern violence put together. Sadly, a substantial number of these deaths have occurred in nations with sizable Christian populations. The faith of many Christians---Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical---has been distorted by ideas and worldviews that have made a mockery of the discipleship called for by Jesus. A renewed emphasis, and a deeper wisdom, regarding discipleship, the biblical story and worldview, is necessary on the part of all who teach the faith. The Christian home should be part of that renewal. Who better to teach the biblical worldview, and model the Christian lifestyle with its God-given emphasis on the value and dignity of all human beings, than Christian parents?

In order to trace the logical progression whereby the author has been rejected as the controller of meaning, this study briefly summarizes the history of the hermeneutical discussions that have led to the current reader-response approaches to texts. Second, it seeks to clearly define the term "literary allusion" as well as related terms so that specific and meaningful discussion can take place in the broader field of intcrtextuality. Third, it sets forth certain criteria whereby the claim that a literary allusion is present in a text can be defended. Fourth, it demonstrates that by accurately defining the term "literary allusion" and identifying literary allusions via their working parts the interpretation of texts is significantly enhanced.

ContentBankruptcy of the Spirit is a coming-of-age story against a backdrop of inherited trauma. The inherited trauma is a result of years of institutional racism enforced by Black Codes and Jim Crow Laws, first learned by the author’s surviving ancestors and then passed on from one generation to the next. These Codes and Laws are not “dead.” And, in some states, these laws are still on the books. They manifest themselves in a variety of 21st century ways: unadjudicated police shootings of unarmed American males of African descent, derogatory characterizations of Americans of African descent and their culture, the cradle to prison trajectory for American males of African descent, etc. The story pivots on how one African American female overcame this psychological murder through cultural and spiritual maturity. The transformative qualities of this manuscript suggest that racism is not overcome solely by law and regulation (behavioral change) but also must include a change in the spiritual arc of Americans---Americans of all descents. Disparity and inhumane treatment of Americans of African descent and other marginalized people will continue without this added component.

ContentIn recent years, the subject of perseverance and apostasy has drawn a renewed attention as believers have wrestled with issues of justification and assurance of salvation. To make an in-depth study of perseverance and apostasy in the New Testament, I apply the grammatical-historical method in the exegesis of relevant passages against the socio-historical circumstance of each community of the New Testament, dealing with questions such as whether genuine believers can apostatize and lose their salvation, whether apostates can be restored with repentance, how God’s sovereignty and human responsibility work together to result in either perseverance or apostasy, and whether the New Testament writers maintain unity or disunity on the subject. From my inductive study based on biblical-theological and exegetical methods of interpretation, I find that the New Testament writers maintain a uniform concept of apostasy since they address a common belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God incarnated in the flesh. Apostasy is different from backsliding and defection in that it is a calculated rejection of the gospel of Jesus Christ; so apostates, as the book of Hebrews affirms, cannot be restored. Also, genuine believers are preserved by God through His Spirit unto salvation, so biblical warnings and exhortations are designed to realize the elect’s perseverance rather than suppose a possibility of their loss of salvation through apostasy. My book sets out to affirm the unity in the New Testament over perseverance and apostasy and invalidate viewpoints that challenge the authority and authenticity of the Scripture.

Some may hide their limp better than others. Nevertheless, the limp is there. Suffering is no respecter of persons. While suffering afflicts our bodies and emotions, the problem of suffering afflicts the mind. When confronted by tragedy, one might ask: How did this happen? or How can I survive this pain? Eventually the more philosophical questions press in upon our minds: Why did God let this happen? or How can I trust a God who would let my child die? While all walk through suffering, only some grow through suffering. This is my story of limping through doubt, loss, and grief following the death of my firstborn son. More importantly, it’s the story of how our limp in life can help us grow more in love with our suffering Savior.Â

About the AuthorI have a BA in elementary and specific learning disabilities education and have taught middle-grade children for twenty-three years in Christian schools. I have studied children’s literature and writing at the Institute of Children’s Literature and completed the registered instructor program from the Institute for Excellence in Writing. Content(Working Title: The Dream: God’s Messages in the Night Through the Ages) A woman in Texas is told in a dream to wake up and pray for her son. At that same moment, one thousand miles away, a gun pointed at her son’s head misfires and the man holding the gun, a robber, flees from the car. Another woman dreams that a fire engulfs her nephew’s home. Concerned, she wakes and prays for them. Several days later, her nephew’s home does burst into flames. He and his wife escape with their lives but lose everything in the fire. The dreams of these women and others mirror numerous dream experiences described in Scripture. In fact, dreams have been a rich part of human history from our very first written records in ancient Sumeria, to Abraham – the Bible’s first dreamer – to Paul the Apostle, St. Patrick, and numerous saints through the ages, including St. Francis of Assisi. Why do we dream? What do our dreams mean? Do they represent the stirrings of our psyche, a divine message, or something else? Does God speak to us in dreams? Are not dreams just a figment of our imaginations and last night’s pizza? These and other questions are addressed through a survey of the history of humanity and dreams, including the latest scientific research and interviews with modern-day dreamers.
