title: Bankruptcy of the Spirit
author: Thelma J
category: nonfiction • subcategory: currentissues • date submitted: 4.24.2021 • author id: JaThBa8121
word count: 42000
ContentBankruptcy of the Spirit is a coming-of-age story against a backdrop of inherited trauma. The inherited trauma is a result of years of institutional racism enforced by Black Codes and Jim Crow Laws, first learned by the author’s surviving ancestors and then passed on from one generation to the next. These Codes and Laws are not “dead.” And, in some states, these laws are still on the books. They manifest themselves in a variety of 21st century ways: unadjudicated police shootings of unarmed American males of African descent, derogatory characterizations of Americans of African descent and their culture, the cradle to prison trajectory for American males of African descent, etc. The story pivots on how one African American female overcame this psychological murder through cultural and spiritual maturity. The transformative qualities of this manuscript suggest that racism is not overcome solely by law and regulation (behavioral change) but also must include a change in the spiritual arc of Americans---Americans of all descents. Disparity and inhumane treatment of Americans of African descent and other marginalized people will continue without this added component.
About the AuthorThelma is the author of Bankruptcy of the Spirit, a peek into the ordinary life of a female American of African descent, examining the impact of Inherited trauma and her path to diminish its effects. Through observation techniques learned in her training in Research/Evaluation, Thelma takes her own experiences and those seen at Philadelphia-based historically Black institutions such as Stephen Smith Home for the Aged and Women’s Christian Alliance to fashion this story.

author: Muriel C

word count: 89000
ContentElly, are you an underdog? No, I’m not. I’m a kid who thinks it’s normal to have two alcoholic parents at my house but not normal at my friends’ houses. So how did you cope when your father’s friend tried to rape you? I kicked him off. Then I looked at my feet, and I saw that they walked, so I went forward and tried to train my dog to guard my little sister and brother. In the process, did you try to persuade your parents to adopt two orphans you worried about? Yes, of course. Any help? At first, it was just me, trying to sober up my parents so they would be fit to adopt. But then God pitched in. And where did you meet Him? Well, all over the place: At the Great Healing Revival that swept American in 1947 and at the orphanage where my friends lived. So what happened next? It’s in my book. All of it!

title: The Bathtub Full of Holes
author: Arielle E
category: fiction • subcategory: historical • date submitted: 4.16.2021 • author id: EiArTh7521
word count: 45000
ContentOne airplane was scheduled to go to California; the other was scheduled to go down. When the conniving of an alleged smuggler goes awry, five friends plunge into the trap. But surviving an airplane crash is the easy part. "Plane crashed, pilot dead. One broken leg and a bloody head. Summer moved out, winter moved in: Hope of rescue seems fairly thin." Jack, Maria, Eddy, Camille and Carl are pitted against the elements, faced with medical trauma, and confronted by their own specters of the past and an embezzler desperate enough to kill. Will the bond of loyalty carry them beyond mere survival to see justice served on a fleeing Nazi war criminal?
About the AuthorArielle Eicher writes to fill a void for truly Christian fiction: something more than secular writing with a mealtime prayer dropped in. With absorbing plot-lines and engaging characters, her stories portray adventure, humor, and life from a Christian standpoint. In addition to "The Bathtub Full of Holes," Arielle continues to write novels, short stories and children's picture books. She has also written numerous skits, some of which have been performed for her church. When not wearing down pencils, Arielle enjoys canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, singing, and needle felting. Her Doberman Pinscher and small flock of ducks provide her much amusement.

title: Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament
author: Dongsu K
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 4.16.2021 • author id: KiDoPe7421
word count: 440624
ContentIn recent years, the subject of perseverance and apostasy has drawn a renewed attention as believers have wrestled with issues of justification and assurance of salvation. To make an in-depth study of perseverance and apostasy in the New Testament, I apply the grammatical-historical method in the exegesis of relevant passages against the socio-historical circumstance of each community of the New Testament, dealing with questions such as whether genuine believers can apostatize and lose their salvation, whether apostates can be restored with repentance, how God’s sovereignty and human responsibility work together to result in either perseverance or apostasy, and whether the New Testament writers maintain unity or disunity on the subject. From my inductive study based on biblical-theological and exegetical methods of interpretation, I find that the New Testament writers maintain a uniform concept of apostasy since they address a common belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God incarnated in the flesh. Apostasy is different from backsliding and defection in that it is a calculated rejection of the gospel of Jesus Christ; so apostates, as the book of Hebrews affirms, cannot be restored. Also, genuine believers are preserved by God through His Spirit unto salvation, so biblical warnings and exhortations are designed to realize the elect’s perseverance rather than suppose a possibility of their loss of salvation through apostasy. My book sets out to affirm the unity in the New Testament over perseverance and apostasy and invalidate viewpoints that challenge the authority and authenticity of the Scripture.

title: To Follow the Lamb: A Peaceable Reading of the Book of Revelation
author: Ted G
category: nonfiction • subcategory: biblecommentary • date submitted: 4.7.2021 • author id: GrTeTo7021
word count: 100000
ContentThe book of Revelation, for many, seems hopelessly hard to interpret. It gives the impression of being full of frightening and confusing visions. However, To Follow the Lamb: A Peaceable Reading of the Book of Revelation shows that Revelation actually is fascinating, inspiring, and empowering. The key to reading Revelation is simple. Let’s take seriously the opening words of the book that tell us it is a “revelation of Jesus Christ.†Let’s expect Revelation to help us understand Jesus and his will for us. We may expect that Revelation shares the same basic sensibility that we find in the gospels and the rest of the New Testament. Revelation is an exhortation to discipleship—follow the Lamb wherever he goes! It offers a sharp critique of the world’s empires and of how people of faith to find ways to be comfortable within the empires. Revelation portrays God as merciful and peaceable—but engaged in a battle against the spiritual powers of evil, a fought with the weapons of love, not worldly violent weapons. To Follow the Lamb opens up Revelation’s blueprint for faithful living—resistance to the empires and embrace of the compassionate and healing love of the Lamb.

title: Life with a Limp: Walking and Growing Through Suffering
author: David S
category: nonfiction • subcategory: spiritualgrowth • date submitted: 4.3.2021 • author id: StDaLi6021
word count: 110000
ContentWorking Title: Life with a Limp: Walking and Growing Through Suffering Everybody walks with a limp. From cradle to casket, life is filled with physical, psychological, and emotional pain. Some may hide their limp better than others. Nevertheless, the limp is there. Suffering is no respecter of persons. While suffering afflicts our bodies and emotions, the problem of suffering afflicts the mind. When confronted by tragedy, one might ask: How did this happen? or How can I survive this pain? Eventually the more philosophical questions press in upon our minds: Why did God let this happen? or How can I trust a God who would let my child die? While all walk through suffering, only some grow through suffering. This is my story of limping through doubt, loss, and grief following the death of my firstborn son. More importantly, it’s the story of how our limp in life can help us grow more in love with our suffering Savior.Â

title: The Dream: God's Messages in the Night Through the Ages
author: James F
category: nonfiction • subcategory: generalinterest • date submitted: 3.16.2021 • author id: FrJaTh4421
word count: 61500
Content(Working Title: The Dream: God’s Messages in the Night Through the Ages) A woman in Texas is told in a dream to wake up and pray for her son. At that same moment, one thousand miles away, a gun pointed at her son’s head misfires and the man holding the gun, a robber, flees from the car. Another woman dreams that a fire engulfs her nephew’s home. Concerned, she wakes and prays for them. Several days later, her nephew’s home does burst into flames. He and his wife escape with their lives but lose everything in the fire. The dreams of these women and others mirror numerous dream experiences described in Scripture. In fact, dreams have been a rich part of human history from our very first written records in ancient Sumeria, to Abraham – the Bible’s first dreamer – to Paul the Apostle, St. Patrick, and numerous saints through the ages, including St. Francis of Assisi. Why do we dream? What do our dreams mean? Do they represent the stirrings of our psyche, a divine message, or something else? Does God speak to us in dreams? Are not dreams just a figment of our imaginations and last night’s pizza? These and other questions are addressed through a survey of the history of humanity and dreams, including the latest scientific research and interviews with modern-day dreamers.

ContentJack’s life is broken, his marriage estranged. After his failed suicide attempt and rescue by a compassionate stranger, he is forced to face up to the man he has become—a far cry from the man he wants to be. As he grapples with his own big questions, his son’s life hangs in the balance. His wife, Brenda, angry and grieving, struggles to open her heart to the man who has betrayed her more times than she can count. As Jack and Brenda’s story unfolds, five trainee Guardian Angels discover the tough realities of life on earth and prepare to embark on their own journey—to open people’s eyes to God’s presence and love, and his passion to rescue, redeem, and restore. This is the story of how heaven and earth overlap. Of how God waits, patiently and earnestly, in many guises, for his sons and daughters to lift the veil of unawareness and receive his grace. Of how, out of the depths of despair, God can bring healing and hope to a couple who thought all was lost.

title: Origins of the Hebrews: New Evidence for Israelites in Egypt from Joseph to the Exodus
author: Douglas P
category: nonfiction • subcategory: academic • date submitted: 3.8.2021 • author id: PeDoOr4121
word count: 155000
ContentFor centuries, biblical scholars and archaeologists alike have longed for historical proof to verify the most important story in Jewish history: the 430-year Israelite sojourn (Exod 12:40) in Egypt and the exodus. Evidence of Hebrew residence in this land has been so elusive that such a discovery often is viewed as stumbling on biblical archaeology’s holy grail. Egyptologist James Hoffmeier once wrote that as for the Israelite sojourn and exodus, no clearly identifiable support has come to light in Egypt until now. Ironically, few scholars have engaged in any serious pursuit of potential evidence. The opposite is true for the research behind the present work. This volume claims to present—for the first time in history—the groundbreaking discovery of interconnecting archaeological, epigraphical, and iconographical evidence that attests to the presence of Israelites in Egypt from 1876–1446 BC, the exact period required by biblical chronology for their inhabitation there as foreigners. This evidence is vital to the book’s title, because as James Hoffmeier stated correctly in 2014, one of ancient Israel’s creeds (Deut 26:5–8) emphasizes the sojourn and exodus from Egypt as foundational to Israel’s origins as a people. The world needs to hear of this story’s veracity.

title: Born to Shine: Loving Jesus and the World with Intentionality and Excellence
author: James L
category: nonfiction • subcategory: missions • date submitted: 3.6.2021 • author id: LoJaBo3521
word count: 60000
ContentThe brokenness and fragility of the planet has become clearer during these days of pandemic, economic struggle, injustice, and hateful language. Darkness seems to be winning, but God is not ignorant or impotent. Since the days of Abraham, God has used people of faith to bless the world and bring transformation. Something, however, must change in the way Christ followers today see ourselves and in the methods we employ as partners in God’s mission. Jesus beckons his followers to build higher lampstands, lives that have maximum impact on the needs of the world for the glory of God. Although many pastors, authors and mission leaders highlight the need of the Church to do more ministry with those who are beyond the walls of our Christian communities, these voices are often heard only as calls to “do moreâ€. Born to Shine is an invitation and a process to shine brightly – even as the moon faithfully reflects the light of the Sun. This is not a call to serve more but to serve smarter. With intentionality and a commitment to excellence, Christ followers can impact darkness in ways that address root problems and bring real solutions that affirm the worth of individuals and bring God great glory. We are the light of the world.

title: How to Preach the Prophets for All Their Worth
author: Andrew H
category: nonfiction • subcategory: theology • date submitted: 3.4.2021 • author id: HaAnHo3521
word count: 90000
ContentThe Old Testament prophets played a critical role in revealing God’s plan of salvation. They occupy a significant proportion of the Biblical canon, similar in size to the entire New Testament. Despite this prominent position, they are often overlooked as suitable material for preaching. Most preachers struggle to navigate the unfamiliar terrain of the Old Testament prophetic literature. My book explores “why†and “how†to preach the Old Testament prophetic books to the Church. The first part outlines three key reasons that should lead us to preach the prophets today: the example of Jesus and the New Testament writers, the value of their message for the Church, and the genius of their rhetoric. The second part focuses on how to preach the prophets with hermeneutical precision, theological depth, genre sensitivity, and pastoral pulse.

title: Changing Your Mind without Losing Your Faith
author: David H
category: nonfiction • subcategory: theology • date submitted: 3.3.2021 • author id: HoDaCh2521
word count: 77000
ContentYoung people have been leaving the Church in large numbers. They reject a version of Christianity they perceive as intellectually unacceptable, morally objectionable, and spiritually deadening. There are better ways to understand Christianity, but considering alternatives involves a willingness to rethink cherished assumptions. This book provides guidance about doing the kind of rethinking that is needed. Here are a few examples: We can’t view the Bible as a message directly from God. Divine revelation comes to us in the form of writings that are shaped by cultural views of different times and places. Portrayals of God as wrathful and demanding punishment should be rejected in the light of the fuller revelation in Jesus. We need to replace the idea of salvation as a transaction to gain admission to heaven with an understanding of it as a fulfillment God seeks for all people. Rather than viewing the Christian message as primarily about life after death, we need to see that Jesus’s mission was focused on transforming life on earth. In contrast to a message that validates our social position and privileges, we should recognize that Jesus calls for a community organized on principles that challenge norms our culture takes for granted.

title: Secrets from the Parable of the Sower
author: Matthew M
category: nonfiction • subcategory: spiritualgrowth • date submitted: 2.26.2021 • author id: MuMaSe2121
word count: 20000
ContentJesus exhorts us to study the parable of the Sower in Mark 4, “If you can’t understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables?†True seed is the Gospel. We find this theme all through the Bible. The substance of the soil, on the other hand, doesn't seem evident. However, the Bible describes the singular attitude of those with prepared hearts as often and clearly as it does the Gospel. You just need to know what to look for. When we understand who good soil represents, answers to many questions become clear. What is maturity? How do we mature? How do we effectively pray for ourselves and others? What do we look for in Christian fellowship? What is worship? What is good fruit? How do we endure temptations while seeds in bad soil can not? How were the first temptations designed to directly oppose a prepared heart? How do many Christian leaders pander to seeds in rocky and weedy soil? Why do so many fall away or become fruitless? The answers to these questions and more come alive once we define good soil.

title: Unlearning: Your permission to think the backwards way
author: Paul B
category: nonfiction • subcategory: spiritualgrowth • date submitted: 2.17.2021 • author id: BaPaUn35820
word count: 40000
ContentHow to Ride A Backward Bike Give yourself permission to think differently! What if what you believed to be true was based on wrong foundational thought? Is it possible to truly grow as a person if all you ever do is add knowledge upon knowledge? Even as a person of faith, Pastor, or Christian leader! One of the great challenges Jesus faced was to teach communities steeped in historical tradition a new way of thinking, helping them unlearn deeply entrenched views forged by generations of tradition, religion and culture. Drawing on biblical principles and the experience of learning to ride a backward bike, thought-leadership expert Paul Bartlett will explain how God transforms our thinking. This profound thought of 'unlearning' will equip you to embark upon a significant journey that will help change the direction of your life for the better, whether it is in your personal relationships, vocation, faith or leadership. Paul Bartlett has spent over thirty years as a leader in faith organisations, serving his community and the author of the widely sold book Thank God It's Monday which is transforming how individuals and churches around the globe engage with their communities.
