Letters to Jesus

Page 1-2: (PAGE 1) One morning, Sophie woke up with a BIG idea. (PAGE 2) She rushed downstairs, grabbed all her art supplies, and was ready to make something special.

Page 3-4: (PAGE 3) Sophie grabbed a colourful piece of paper and began to write.

Dear Jesus,

I love you!

Thank you for the strength you give me each day. You are loving, kind, and gracious, and most of all, you are my best friend.

When I feel lonely, I remind myself that you are always with me.

Jesus, there is no one like you. You are so special to me!

(PAGE 4) Using her favourite crayon and some stickers, Sophie decorated her letter.

Page 5-6: (PAGE 5) Sophie grabbed an envelope, wrote “Jesus” on the front then headed outside. (PAGE 6) With a string and a heart-shaped balloon, Sophie was ready to send off her letter. “One, two…” Sophie counted, holding tightly on to the string. “Three!” Sophie threw open her hands and watched in delight as the wind pulled her letter up, up, and away, far beyond the clouds.

Page 7-8: (PAGE 7) Sophie’s letter flew past the bright yellow sun, through the white fluffy clouds, until…

Page 9-10: (PAGE 9) POP! The balloon on Sophie’s letter was popped by a flock of birds practicing their ballet twirls. (PAGE 10) Down, down, down Sophie’s letter went.

Page 11-12: (PAGE 11) The letter landed in Greece. There, a little boy laid on the grass with tears falling down his cheeks, feeling lonely. Wooosh! The wind blew Sophie’s letter right into the palm of his hands. (PAGE 12) His eyes lit up with joy. Who is this Jesus? he thought. The following day, he ventured into town, asking everyone if they knew Jesus, and how he could know him too.

Page 13-14: (PAGE 13) The next day, before her bedtime prayer, Sophie excitedly wrote another letter.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for making me me!

Thank you for my blonde hair, blue eyes, and for the glasses I wear to help me see. Thank you for making all your children so unique and special.

I am wonderfully made by you!

(PAGE 14) Using her glitter markers, Sophie added a special final touch to her letter. She grabbed an envelope, wrote “Jesus” on the front then headed outside.

Page 15-16 (PAGE 15): With a string and a heart-shaped balloon, Sophie was ready to send off her letter. “One, two…” Sophie counted, holding tightly on to the string. “Three!” Sophie threw open her hands and watched in delight as the wind pulled her letter up, up, and away, far beyond the clouds.

Page 17-18 (PAGE 17): Sophie’s letter flew past the glowing moon and shimmering stars, through the dark sky, until…

Page 19-20 (PAGE 19): POP! The balloon on Sophie’s letter was popped by a GIANT butterfly, who licked the balloon, thinking it was a giant lollipop. (PAGE 20) Down, down, down Sophie’s letter went.

Page 21-22 (PAGE 21): The letter landed in Italy. There, a little girl was surrounded by other children, who were laughing and calling her mean names—all because she had big ears. Wooosh! The wind blew Sophie’s letter right in front of the little girl’s face. She leaped up and grabbed it. Maybe being different is a good thing she thought. (PAGE 22) Curious to know more, the little girl went to a nearby library and looked for a book about Jesus.

Page 23-24 (PAGE 23): A year later… Sophie’s letter became the start of something big. In Greece, the little boy no longer felt lonely. Though he didn’t have any friends, he made the most important relationship of all, one with Jesus. At the top of his lungs he shouted “THANK YOU SOPHIE!” (PAGE 24) In Italy, the little girl learned to love her big ears. She bought herself a bible, and fell in love with all the beautiful things it told her about herself, and her heavenly father.  She framed Sophie’s letter as a reminder of the wonderful person who led her to Jesus. “I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” she would say, reminding herself daily.

Page 25-26 (PAGE 25): On a bright and sunny morning, Sophie went outside. Dancing while watering her garden, she noticed an envelope on the ground with her name on it. The letter read:

Dear Sophie,

I have seen your sincere heart in wanting to send me letters. Though I did not get them, your letters have led others to know and love me.

I am very grateful for this!

I love you very much, Sophie.

Page 27-28 (PAGE 27): Sophie smiled. She felt as if her heart was glowing. (PAGE 28) Sophie kept writing letters to Jesus. Even if her letters never made it to him, spreading her love for Jesus made Sophie’s heart happy.
