Brief Description

Our Baby in Heaven is a gentle, poetic picture book that helps young children (ages 3–5) understand sibling miscarriage and the hope of heaven. Through soft rhyme and simple language, a parent guides a little one through big feelings of missing their baby brother or sister. The story affirms God’s love, the reality of heaven as a real and joyful place, and the truth that family is forever—even when a baby lives only a short time in the womb.

Unlike many books that focus solely on sadness, or medical explanations, this manuscript centers on comfort, belonging, and eternal reunion. It offers parents and caregivers a faith-filled way to talk about loss without overwhelming a preschooler. The 460-word text is designed for read-aloud moments, bedtime conversations, and quiet talks after a miscarriage or pregnancy loss.

Written for Christian families navigating grief, the book pairs tender storytelling with theological hope so that young hearts can hold both sorrow and the promise that their baby is safe with Jesus.

Synopsis

Our Baby in Heaven begins with a quiet moment between a parent and a young child who notices that something has changed—Mommy’s belly is no longer growing, or there is an empty place where a baby was expected. The parent answers with honesty and gentleness, explaining that the baby now lives with Jesus in heaven.

The story moves through the child’s feelings of confusion and sadness. The parent names those emotions, then turns the child’s heart toward the hope of heaven. Using soft, poetic language, the book describes heaven as a real place of light, joy, and God’s presence. The baby is shown as whole, loved, and still part of the family forever.

Key moments include the parent holding the child close, picturing the baby safe in Jesus’ arms, and affirming that the family remains complete in God’s eyes. The text avoids medical detail and creative metaphors and instead focuses on emotional and spiritual truth a 3- to 5-year-old can understand. Recurring images of light, of God as a loving protector, and of a forever family carry the central message: God’s love is bigger than loss, and the baby is not gone but rests in perfect peace with Jesus in heaven.

The arc moves from recognition of absence, through grief, to the solid hope of reunion. It ends in peace, with parent and child resting in the knowledge that they will one day meet their baby in heaven. At 460 words, the manuscript uses gentle rhyme and rhythm suited for repeated read-alouds. Written from a Christian worldview, it is intended for families who have experienced miscarriage or infant loss, as well as churches and ministries walking with grieving parents and siblings.

Sample Chapters

Hello, my sweet child.  I know things have been strange.

You’ve noticed I’m sad and that something has changed.

I know it’s confusing and hard to make sense

Of why Mama’s quiet and it feels so tense.

But none of this sadness is something you caused.

You’ve done nothing wrong. That’s the truth without pause.

Please know that we love you with all of our might.

You’re safe, and you’re wanted. You bring such delight.

There is a reason these feelings are true—

Come close now and listen, I’ll share it with you.

One day we asked God for a baby so dear,

The same way we once prayed that you would appear.

Then in Mama’s tummy, a miracle came—

So hidden and fragile, but precious the same.

A sibling for you.  A new baby for me.

A heartbeat.  A name.  One more branch on our tree.

How happy we were as we dreamed and made plans—

But God’s ways are higher and greater than man’s.

I’m sorry to say we can’t bring this babe home,

But have no fear, child. They’re far from alone.

Instead of arriving in this world we share,

The angels came down and took Baby with care

Straight into the arms of our Savior above,

In Paradise, held in His infinite love.

It’s beautiful there, with the streets paved with gold,

Where no one goes hungry, or fears growing old.

The light never fades, and the joy never ends,

And Jesus is with them — our Savior and Friend.

Our baby waits safely in Heaven above,

With no fear, no tears, and no pain — only love.

I know this is true, for the Bible says so.

God’s Word is our comfort wherever we go.

Still, even though Baby’s in peace now with God,

I know these past days have felt heavy and odd.

You might have big questions or feelings inside.

That’s okay. I’ll listen and stay by your side.

You can tell us your thoughts and voice all your fears.

Then bring God your worries. He’ll hold all your tears.

We’re still a family through all that we face.

God works for our good by His mercy and grace.

Our God’s in control even when life feels tough.

He is our strong refuge. His care is enough.

He loves us much more than we can understand.

The plans that He has are all perfect and grand.

And soon our heart’s aching will start to subside.

Christ shepherds us gently and walks by our side.

We’ll see our sweet Babe in the fullness of days,

Together in Heaven, with joy and in praise.
